4to (230x175 mm), 274-(8) pages. binding : Contempory full limp vellum, Blind fillet on covers. Loss of vellum on the edge of covers, corners bumped. handwritten on the covers. Lack the bottom ot the title page. Paper with foxings and waterstains, many passages underlined in colored pencil.
Second edition enriched by a treatise on chemical remedies.
Nicolas Chesneau (1601? -1680?) Doctor, graduated from the faculty of Toulouse exercised in Marseille.
In the preamble, a sonnet written by R. Dares summarizes the work as follows:
"You run everywhere from shop to shop,
And pretend seeing various practitioners
Acquire the reputation of true pharmacists;
Learn from Chesneau rather the theoretical.
He gathered you from a methodical order,
All that the writers, Hebreux, Egyptians
Greeks, Arabs, Latins, new or old,
have left in writing of the Pharmaceutical Art ".
